    GIL-Find: What’s the Difference?

GIL-Find (VuFind software) Classic GIL (WebVoyage software)
    • GIL-Find is new in look, feel, and functionality.  It is experimental and rapidly evolving.
    • GIL-Find provides keyword and phrase searching and broadens searches to include variations on the term entered.
    • GIL-Find’s searching is more inclusive, allowing for exploration and discovery of library resources with the ability to narrow large result lists by topic, call number area, format, author, language, location, and more.
    • New records are added to GIL-Find each night.
    • GIL-Find offers options to:
      • login to mark favorites and add comments and tagging to records
      • set up RSS feeds to receive updates to important searches
      • text call number and location information to a cell phone
      • link to Amazon reviews, Google Books previews, etc.
    • Classic GIL’s interface has been in development for over a decade.  It’s mature in function but outdated in appearance.
    • Classic GIL provides basic keyword and phrase searching, plus the option to search for titles that begin with a specific word or phrase (a helpful choice for finding single-word titles like the journal “Science”).
    • Classic GIL also allows for browsing a sequenced list of subject headings, authors, or call numbers from a specific starting point.
    • Classic GIL’s searching can be more precise. With the option to set limits before searching, it can be better for finding one specific resource.  It allows more sophisticated, library-savvy searching.
    • New records are added continuously to Classic GIL and can be found immediately without waiting overnight.
    • Classic GIL handles a broad range of Unicode and special character functions including the ability to search by Chinese and other character sets.
