Next Generation Systems: OCLC WorldShare Management Services

Submitted by Administrator on Apr 7, 2012

On Thursday 5 April 2012 OCLC presented the GIL Libraries with a webinar to discuss their WorldShare Management Services (WMS).  The recording of the webinar is located at URL: https://oclc.webex.com/oclc/lsr.php?AT=pb&SP=MC&rID=53765967&rKey=12e3271cf25e6c21.  There are some technical difficulties with this recording and unfortunately there is no audio for the first 6.3 minutes.  Fortunately, this problem was not during the actual demonstration.

There was also a discussion about privacy and security and here is an OCLC link that provides more detail information - http://www.oclc.org/policies/security/.

With respect to reports, click here for a list of canned WorldShare Management Services (WMS) Circulation and Acquisition reports (Word) or this information is available at http://www.stats.oclc.org.  In the future OCLC plans are as follows:

  • To deliver an enhanced set of standard (predefined) reports, which will ultimately replace http://www.stats.oclc.org, as part of the WMS subscription.
  • To support library-defined ad hoc queries.
  • General availability for these enhancement is expected in FY13,
  • In FY13 OCLC will also be working on the next-generation analytics framework that will enable OCLC to offer a comprehensive suite of local and cooperative analytics to aid in collection development, workflow assessment, and other library metrics.
