It is also recommended (if not already in place) that each Library inventory its workstations, and work to establish a 3 year replacement/upgrade schedule. The purpose of this schedule would be to evaluate 1/3 of a Library's workstations every year and make appropriate upgrades/replacements.

We are all aware of how fast technology is changing, but the pace of change may impact some staff more than others. In addition, some upgrades may be for non-technical reasons - for example, reviewing staff monitor sizes. Making appropriate replacements such as replacing all 15" monitors could help improve workflow and productivity.

Voyager Workstation Specification Summary:

• CPU: Pentium III 450 MHz PC.
  
• RAM: Minimum 192MB of RAM for Public and 256MB of RAM for Staff.
  
• Hard drive with 60GB for staff - add space for other applications and data storage.
  
• Monitor: Minimum of 15" to 21" Flat Panel display depending upon need.
  
• Video Card: XGA resolution or higher and 16 bit color or better.
  
• Network card matching local network configuration.
      - Example: 10-100MB ethernet NIC.
  
• Floppy drive.
  
• Audio card.
